Hotel Mural

This is just one of dozens of freehand painted murals on the outside walls of our hotel in Palo Alto. The rooms also have paintings on the interior walls.
These murals took about two years to complete.

Jesus Saves!

Click Photo to Enlarge

I Saw this going down the highway today.
I thought to myself how incredibly American this was.
There's a lot going on here.
There were about 25 cars trapped behind this wagon by the double yellow line.
Lots of honking horns.
God I love this country!

Photo Bomb!

Click Photo to Enlarge

The hummingbirds are thick.
When I first saw this photo, I skipped over it. I do take a few test exposures,
and I am not sure if this is one of those. But after closer inspection,
I found that "someone" was trying to sneak into the frame.

Just a small part of the selection of hot sauces at Burrito Bandito. One of the bottles is so hot that it comes with a death certificate!

Accidental Friend

Click Photo to Enlarge

While I was on patrol, searching for a photo, I came across this little girl. I had found what I thought would be todays photo, and I was setting up to start shooting. But this cute little Border Collie came over to the fence, and she was so persistent that I had to pay attention to her.

She gives good kisses!

Men At Work - March 13, Make-Up Photo

Click Photo to Enlarge
I photographed this during lunch today, a little Greek take-out stand in Redding.

I'm always interested in what other people do for a living. I don't actually even know that these are "men" at work. They could certainly be women. I wonder how much education it takes to do a job like this. I wonder how much it pays.

Rose For Nikki

Because of my surgery, I missed a few photos.
This photo is a make-up photo for March 12.

Today's Hummingbird

Click Photo to Enlarge
Today, I have tried to restrict my photo journey to my porch. The hummingbirds are a constant pleasure, and photographing them is a constant frustration. I have gone through a period in the past few days in which my hummingbird photos have taken a nosedive. This has coincided with me learning to use a new speedlite. Baby learning steps each day.

I hope you like today's bird. I think it's a male Anna's Hummingbird.

The colorful flags, plus the "FUN" sign, at the entrance to the Oasis Fun Center
just makes me feel happy! Children and adults come from miles around
to enjoy the miniature golf course and the arcade.

Attack Hummer (Make-Up Photo)

Click Photo to Enlarge

Because of my surgery this year, I have missed 4 photos. This is being posted as a make-up photo for one of those photos. I hope to do one photo representing each day of this year. March 8, was the first photo I missed, so this is intended as a make-up for that date.

This hummingbird has a piece of head-feather (from another bird) in its beak. Hummingbirds are apparently very competitive, and they will attempt to chase other hummingbirds away sometimes. This particular bird was being very aggressive. I didn't notice the feather until I uploaded the photo.

Today's Hummingbird

Click Photo to Enlarge

I am still trying new things when it comes to photographing hummingbirds. This was shot using my new speedlight. In order to stop this little bird's wings, my speedlite was set to 1/64 power, which is as fast as this light goes. I had to place the light about 1 1/2 feet away from the bird.

Because I find hummingbirds so fascinating, and because I can't get around much right now, expect to see more photos of hummingbirds.
