Jonathan Livingston?

A lesson learned again: Stay flexible. I went to a spot on the Sacramento River where I knew I would find Canada Geese. Indeed, there were many. But as I sat on the ground snapping some nice photos of geese, several gulls decided to drop in for a free meal. I got a couple of quick photos of the gulls as they landed, this being one of them. I got very lucky. I was shooting in Aperture Priority, which just happened to yield a shutter speed of 800 - enough to stop this bird in flight. I changed to Shutter Priority mode and cranked up the speed a tad, and got a few more photos. I liked this one the best - no cropping, I just increased the exposure a small amount. I also removed just a small amount of lens vignetting.

The Largest Grindstone In The World

On the corner of Cascade Blvd and Shasta Dam Blvd sits this grindstone with the inscription "The "Largest Grindstone in the World." Supposedly it was used to sharpen blades on certain pieces of machinery used to cut through the rocks that would become Shasta Dam.

Meet Bev & Leonardo

Click Photo to Enlarge

Beverly loves her dog Leonardo, aka Leroy. She's presently living on the street in Anderson, CA. Beverly hails from Austin, TX, where she used to write and play music, mostly jazz. Her instrument of choice is the piano. Beverly also used to work in the American Airlines Cargo division in Dallas before she fell on hard times. Recently, while traveling up from Chico, Beverly's other dog, a female Border Collie, died. I enjoyed my talk with Bev. She's a very nice lady, and Leonardo is a sweet boy!
